Introduction

Start1Our swimming and water polo development program provides a coordinated and linked teaching, coaching and competitive program. Our teachers and coaches are all qualified ASA instructors. Our teaching courses follow the nationally recognised ASA awards scheme. Club and Council personnel are dedicated in their aim to provide a relevant top class service. We can provide tuition for those who have just completed 20m up to national competitors.

Blackpool S.C. is an Amateur Swimming Association (A.S.A.) affiliated club, which has been awarded the Swim21 level of ‘Skill Development’ club. This means that the A.S.A., Great Britain’s Swimming governing body has accredited Blackpool Swimming Club as proficient in providing the necessary components to enable young athletes to develop to their potential.

Aims & Objectives

● To raise the standard of the sport's to the highest degree by organised sessions under the direction of A.S.A. qualified personnel.

● To accommodate various levels of ability from beginner, competitive, through junior, senior, national & international status.

● To ensure that opportunities are easily accessible to all who wish to participate.

● To implement the Sports England Long term Athlete development plan model encouraging the physical activity of young people.

● To establish the infrastructure to enable Swimmers & Water Polo players to progress through introductory stages right up to national & international competition.

● Our coaching program unearth the potential of already proficient Swimmers & Water Polo players & guide them towards competitions.

● The primary purpose of Blackpool S.C is towards the improvement of swimming performance in the area.

Our team events are used as a team building exercise & represent a fun aspect to club life, we encourage all swimmers to aim to be part of these competitions to encourage good moral. These team events include Sub league, Speedo League, Squadron relays & Micro league (for younger swimmers) and selected Open events are all entered by Blackpool S.C. members, where they can compete against other teams in the area for fun & Pride! The Club Championships is an internal Blackpool Swimming Club competition held at the end of each year, where swimmers can compete against each other and the clock to judge how they have progressed.

Coaching Program (Three levels to the top level Competitive Squads)

FRGirlThe coaching program is for swimmers who have shown potential for and commitment to the sport at a competitive level. The program offers a systematic and progressive training syllabus aimed at enabling the young, talented and enthusiastic swimmers to reach their true potential. The program has produced excellent swimmers who have won many medals and trophies and have represented the club from local up to international level. Sessions available every day subject to age and ability.

Youth Coaching Program (Also known as Micro League Squad)

Start2The most talented young swimmers of Blackpool S.C. will be asked to represent the club by swimming in team events. These are often seen as a fun way to bring healthy competition into their club life. Specifically for the younger members of the club is the Micro league; in this we compete against other teams in the area for fun & pride!

Wednesday 7:00 - 8:00am & 6:00 - 8:00pm
Thursday 6:00 - 9:00pm (Palatine or St Georges; venue dependant on ability)

Water Polo Program

PoloCartoonIf you want to try water polo, all new members of the club are welcome to try out at this sport. You need to be physically fit & a proficient swimmer, but players can play into their latter years & youngsters can start mini polo at just 9 years old, so it is a sport for all ages. It is a sport of immense fun & frustration in equal measure & can be enjoyed by Girls, Boys, Ladies & Men alike. So if you want to try a sport that combines the movement & ball handling skills of basketball, the shooting of football, the physical aspects of rugby & the speed & stamina of swimming water polo could be for you. Participants must be of a good swimming standard. What is Water Polo Video is viewable for new people to the game.

MikasaMixed Water Polo - Tuesday 8:30 - 10:00pm

MikasaJunior Water Polo - 3rd Sunday of each month (also available on selected Tuesdays evenings at the coaches discretion)

MikasaNew Water Polo Session suggested by council officials (Day and time to be decided)

Cost are currently, £2.05 per session, plus the annual Club & ASA memberships. (There is NO extra charge for participants swimming immediately prior to a water polo session)

Land Training

This is a great form of way to build up your Strength, Speed, Endurance and Flexibility for your swimming. It is very important that you take part in Land Training, as this is a very crucial part of your Swimming Training that can greatly improve your performances. Sarah Linton is our highly qualified trainer in this area of sport, having many years experience. She will help you out any way she can to improve your fitness and flexibility. All Olympic swimmers have stated that Land Training is very important aspect of their swimming training. It is can be fun experience, as well as great exercise.

Please make a big effort to attend our Land Training on Wednesday’s from 5.15pm to 6pm.

A NEW Land Training session is under discussion with the council for Sunday evenings.

Development Program

KidsUnderWhen young swimmers first join the club they may not be of a high enough standard or fitness to effectively train with the Micro League Squad. The Micro Development program provides a link for these young swimmers towards competitive development, by providing them with the skill and fitness base they require.

The Club has an enthusiastic masters (Adult Swimmers) group who would welcome new members. Sessions are available for both recreational and fitness and competitive swimming.

Junior Club Group (Standard 400 metres+ and non-competitive)

This group is for young swimmers who have chosen not to follow a competitive program. The aim is to give swimmers who do not want to compete the opportunity to choose from the many water activities available, improving their water skills.

Saturday 7.00 - 10.00pm

Costs are annual club membership and £2.05 per session

Teaching

Learn to swim lessons are now provided by the council run swimming lessons call Palatine Reception on 01253 478484 for more information.

Disability

We provide link groups with Blackpool Polar Bears Disability group, and in line with our equal opportunities policy strive to provide training opportunities for all. While we cannot currently provide a specific training for disabled swimmers where possible we practice an inclusion for all policy.

Open Water

Whilst we can provide no actual Open Water training it is often possible for open water swimmers to benefit from the pool training we provide, either in the Masters session or within a one of the coaching squads (Availability dependant on space) Open water information can be found at Open Water ASA Website.

Synchronised Swimming

SynchroSwimmersWe currently have no provisions for teaching Synchronised Swimming, contact us if you have any suggestions, watch this space for details...

Diving

HighDiverSince the demolition of the Derby Swimming Baths there have been no facilities available for diving (Diving Boards) closer than Manchester or Wigan. So unless you're a rich millionaire who wants to build us a purpose built pool we'll be waiting for a while until we have the opportunity to continue providing training for this sport.
